About Us

About Us

I (Lee Morris) am currently a Senior at Milwaukie High School. I'll be attending Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in the Fall to study Aerospace Engineering. My Brother Erik is studying Manufacturing Engineering at Oregon State University. We first discovered near space science in a YouTube video about four or more years ago, in which a group sent payloads equipped with Lego Mindstorms kits to control the mission. Fast forward to about a year or so ago, and the idea was still stuck in my mind. I don't recall exactly when it was, but at some around the end of 2012, I started talking with Erik about the possibility of doing our own mission. We tossed ideas back and forth for a while, but one day we decided that we would go ahead and try it, and "A Grand Day Out" was born. You can read about this mission in "A Grand Day Out: The Story". After the successes (and failures) of that first mission, We decided that we wanted to do another. This time, however, we would overcome some of the failures of the first mission and also try some new things. That brings us to the present time, as we are currently in the process of preparing ourselves for the next mission. We have some big ideas, some big plans, and hopefully we are even more successful this time around. We estimate that the mission is going to cost around $400-$450 in equipment. That's the minimum amount. If we get some funding, there's so much more we'd like to do, in this mission and in future missions. That's where YOU can help! You can donate a little bit of money (help us buy zip ties and duct tape) or you can donate a bunch of money (help us buy cameras, weather balloons, helium, etc). Or, if you're a business and would like to sponsor us in return for a bit of advertising or something like that, I'm sure we could work something out. To donate, simply press the pretty little yellow and blue button below that says "donate". It's that easy!
